Juan A. Martínez, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Art and Art History Department at Florida International University, is the author of Cuba: A History in Art and Cuban Art and National Identity: The Vanguardia Painters, 1927-1950. A painter, sculptor, and installation artist, María Brito is best known for intricate mized-media constructions that embody narratives of displacement and loss. In María Brito, Juan Martínez, through careful analysis of her installations, sculptures, and paintings, examines the unique interplay of the personal and the universal in this Miami-based artist's diverse mixed-media works.
