The FIU Cuban Research Institute (CRI) announces the latest installment of Classically Cuban, a highlight of CRI programming that annually attracts more than 300 guests. Now in its ninth year, the concert celebrates the diverse musical traditions of Cuba and its diaspora, bringing a broad spectrum of the greater Miami community to the FIU Wertheim Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.

This year, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of the prolific Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona, CRI is pleased to present "Recordando a Lecuona / Remembering Lecuona." As in the past five years, the Cuban attorney, collector, and independent scholar Emilio Cueto will select and narrate the program. Featuring Musical Director Armando Tranquilino and performers from the FIU School of Music, the evening will take guests on a musical discovery of the maestro's lesser known but significant pieces, as well as a selection of his most beloved and popular works.

The concert will highlight Lecuona as a universal composer, inspired not only by his native country but also by rich international influences, from Spain and Germany to the United States, Mexico, and countries throughout Latin America. In this context, the evening will include music that Lecuona composed for the American cinema, as well as pieces composed in collaboration with numerous lyricists from across the globe.

All tickets have been distributed for this event.
