The Cuban Research Institute (CRI), in partnership with Miami Dade College (MDC) and the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C., cosponsored "A Forum on Social & Knowledge Remittances: From the American Dream to the Americas’ Dream," on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, from 9 a.m. to noon, at MDC's Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The conference was free and open to the public.

The forum sought to foster problem-solving reflections and recommendations by experts and practitioners on the complementary role that could be played by the diasporas’ transfers of social and knowledge remittances, together with their financial remittances, in relation to economic growth and jobs creation in their countries of origin. This groundbreaking event brought together a group of distinguished panelists who have conducted research on the development of potential roles of various migrant communities.

The forum was funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation to the Cuban Research Institute at FIU.
