CRI Visiting Scholar to Work for "El Nuevo Herald"

Dr. Nora Gámez Torres, a CRI Visiting Scholar during the spring semester of 2014, will be starting a new professional phase as a reporter for "El Nuevo Herald." She will specialize in coverage of Cuban affairs.

Nora Gámez Torres earned her Ph.D. in in Sociology from City University London. She also attended the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she obtained a Master in Media and Communications, and the University of Havana, where she earned a Master in Social Communication and where she completed her B.A. with honors. In 2011 Dr. Gámez Torres was a short-term visiting scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. She has published several articles on rap, reggaetón, and alternative music in Cuba.

At CRI, Dr. Gámez Torres's worked on her book manuscript, Living in Transition: Popular Music and Social Change in Contemporary Cuba, based on her Ph.D. dissertation.
