The Cuban Research Institute (CRI) is pleased to announce the tenth installment of its "Classically Cuban" concert series. This year, the concert will feature the internationally renowned Cuban pianist Enrique Chía. It will offer a journey through the rich and varied heritage of Cuban music from the late 19th century to the present. It will include a wide selection of classic habaneras, danzones, congas, boleros, sones, guajiras, and chachachás.

Enrique Chía was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, and emigrated to the United States in 1961. He studied piano in his native Cienfuegos and later earned a Ph.D. in metallurgy at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001, he has recorded more than 50 albums of instrumental music on the piano, accompanied by other instruments. He has performed widely in the United States and internationally, especially throughout Latin America.

Several of Mr. Chía's recordings include the participation of master bassist Israel "Cachao" López. He has also featured flutist Néstor Torres and legends like Olga Guillot and Libertad Lamarque, who sang accompanied by Chía's piano in her last vocal recording. Maestro Chía has recorded boleros, tangos, traditional tropical, Christmas, inspirational music, and two sets of international hits of American music.
