CRI Appoints New Visiting Scholar

The Cuban Research Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Nelson Jaime Santana as Visiting Scholar from July 15 to December 15, 2018. Nelson is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago de Chile. For his doctoral dissertation, he will be conducting research on the labor trajectories of skilled Cuban migrants in Santiago. He will employ a qualitative methodology, particularly semi-structured interviews and life histories, with a small sample of Cuban immigrants. During his stay in Miami, he will review the bibliography on the Cuban exodus to the United States, conduct interviews with experts on the topic, and participate in academic events related to his research.

Nelson Jaime Santana holds an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Havana and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. He has won a doctoral dissertation scholarship from Chile's National Commission for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICYT) to conduct research abroad.
