Between June 2017 and April 2018, Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) sponsored On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection, an exhibition of over 170 works of art, spanning painting, drawing, photography, mixed-media, and sculpture. The exhibition was presented in three parts over the course of a year, and featured a rich panorama of recent work produced by artists living both in Cuba and abroad. On the Horizon celebrated the generous gift of Cuban artworks donated to the museum by Jorge M. Pérez in December 2016, and included a significant number of recent acquisitions purchased during the last year with funds provided as part of Pérez's donation. The exhibition was curated by PAMM Chief Curator Tobias Ostrander.

On April 7, 2018, PAMM held a symposium, Writing the Horizon: Recent Essays on Contemporary Cuban Art, presenting research by three scholars who were commissioned to write essays for the catalogue of the exhibition. Anelys Alvarez presented her investigations related to the exhibition's thematic of "Internal Landscapes," Rachel Price on "Abstracting History," and Jorge Duany on "Domestic Anxieties." Collectively these presentations illuminated various aspects of the works presented in the exhibition and tied them to specific contexts and histories of Cuban artistic production both on the island and in the diaspora during the last several decades.

On November 15, 2018, in conjunction with the launch of the catalogue On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection, PAMM hosted a conversation wih Jorge M. Pérez, Chairman, CEO, founder of Related Group, and art patron; Elizabeth Cerejido, Esperanza Bravo de Varona Chair, Cuban Heritage Collection, University of Miami Libraries; Patricia M. Hanna, Art Director, Related Group; and Tobias Ostrander, Chief Curator, PAMM.

The book can be purchased online through the PAMM shop.
