The Cuban Research Institute is pleased to announce that it will host Yarimis Méndez Pupo as a Visiting Scholar as soon as the public health situation allows it. Yarimis is currently writing her dissertation on the labor market incorporation of Cubans who migrated to Florida between 2000 and 2017. She is particularly interested in the personal motivations and professional expectations of recent Cuban migrants in Miami, as well as how gender and transnational networks shape their experiences. She has already conducted fieldwork on this topic in Miami, based on semi-structured interviews and participant observation.

Yarimis Méndez Pupo is a Ph.D. candidate in social sciences at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Guadalajara and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Havana.
