She also holds an M.S. in higher education administration and a B.S. in social studies education from FIU.
Dr. Diaz is interested in the pre- and post-migration experiences and perspectives of immigrants and how they negotiate their cultural identities. For her doctoral research, she employed a narrative inquiry approach to explore how Cuban immigrants who came to Miami from 1995 to 2017 conceptualized the American dream prior to arrival, how their experiences in the U.S. compare to their pre-migration expectations, and how current economic conditions in the U.S. affect the process of adaptation.
