Ana Roca, D.A., is professor emerita of Spanish and Linguistics in the Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University. 

Professor Roca holds a doctor of arts in Spanish, with concentrations in Spanish and Spanish American literatures and cognate fields in applied linguistics and sociolinguistics from the University of Miami. She also completed postdoctoral intensive work at the Linguistic Society of America 1989 Summer Institute in Linguistics, held in cooperation with the University of Arizona (Tucson). She holds master's and bachelor's degrees in Spanish from the University of Miami.

Her research interests include Spanish in the United States, problems in language learning, language planning, Spanish-English bilingualism, sociolinguistics, and Spanish applied linguistics. Specifically, she is interested in sociolinguistic and pedagogical issues related to U.S. Spanish language and culture, the teaching of Spanish as a heritage language, and foreign language education policy issues. She is the author of the textbook Nuevos mundos: Lectura, cultura y comunicación, forthcoming in its fourth edition (2025).
