The Cuban Research Institute benefits from its location in Miami-Dade County, home to the largest concentration of Cubans outside the island. With nearly a million residents of Cuban origin in 2020, Miami is geographically situated at the gateway between Cuba and the United States. Indeed, Miami has more than twice as many residents of Cuban origin as the island's second largest city, Santiago de Cuba. Cuban American culture thrives in Miami through numerous Spanish-language media, businesses, schools, churches, clubs, and other voluntary associations.
